Victoria Sambunaris

For more than a decade, Vicky Sambunaris has been traveling the country photographing the American landscape and civilization. Using a five by seven field camera, she documents diverse views of our environment, focusing on the places where human activity intersects with the natural world. Her large format photographs capture the grandeur of the American landscape while revealing the subtle, yet pervasive, visual clues of human intervention and our country's capitalist motivations. Recently she has been traveling and photographing the entirety of the Mexican-American border, from both sides of the dividing line, in an attempt to communicate the unity of the landscape and the simultaneous physical beauty and political tension that exists there.
