Philadelphia-based photographer Chris Sembrot's 'Urban Surfers' project is an examination of dedication, culture and commitment associated with the routines of so-called 'urban surfers.' All of these photos were shot in and around the artist's neighborhood in Philadelphia. The series was inspired by Sembrot's surprise at discovering the passion that drives some of his friends and acquaintances to go to great lengths to surf, often waking up at 4 am to drive to the Jersey Shore to get a session in during a swell. During this project he gained an incredible insight into what surfing really means to these city dwellers.
