Spanish artist Amparo Sard's distinctive drawings employ a minimal and poetic method of mark-making. Though it's not apparent from a distance, up-close one realizes that her drawings are made from thousands of minute pinholes. In the works in the 'Fly Woman' series Sard imagines situations in which a cloud of flies helps her to accomplish something or force her to respond to something in a particular way. In these images, the flies represent a society with a core of individuals who have assimilated into a single shared identity. As the series progresses the anguished indecision of the female figure (Sard) regarding the domineering power of the flies is distilled - a moment made eternal. Indecision permeates all of these psychologcially-charged situations, an impression that is enhanced by their stark composition of void-on-white.
