Francesca Woodman (1958–1981) was an American photographer who created an extraordinary body of intimate, surrealist photographs, primarily black-and-white, in which her own body blurs into domestic interiors, merges with walls, and disappears into architectural surfaces. Made largely while she was a teenager and student at the Rhode Island School of Design, her work anticipates many concerns of feminist and body art. Recognized posthumously as a major figure in photography, her work is held in major international museum collections.
