Michelle Segre's grand, over-sized reproductions of organic objects have an aura of beauty surrounding them that is somewhat unsettling or perplexing. Many of the sculptures depict objects that are in a state of decomposition or that are agents of this kind of process, such as mold or fungi. These sculptures, rendered in wax, realistically and delicately painted, have an alluring and activated quality. Her enlargements reveal the secret, underlying growths that are essential parts of the natural world.
