Chinese artist Xu Bing draws on his extensive knowledge of traditional woodblock printmaking techniques to create ambitious multifaceted installations that interrogate humans’ relationship to language, symbols, and text. “Book From the Sky” is a mixed media installation representing four years’ worth of work, during which time Bing hand carved thousands of “false” text characters, which he then printed in books and scrolls.
